About Us
The McCamley family moved to Fern Hills in the Bajool area in 1884, and are currently 5th generation graziers.
Fern Hills Grazing encompasses 9811 hectares divided between four properties "Fern Hills and Oakland Park" -forest grazing in the Bajool district, 1/2 hour south of Rockhampton and "Chisum" and "Telemon" in the Callide/Dawson Valley.
Approximately 2000 head of cattle are run on these properties which include approximately 220 red stud breeders; 350 pure bred grey Brahman females mated to Charolais bulls and a further 500 high grade Brahman commercial females used to breed herd bulls and replacement heifers.
Philosophy
The Fern Hills Brahman Stud was registered in 1983, initially running separate red and grey herds. These days we have realised the necessity for specialised approaches to an ever expanding seedstock industry. As such we have focused our energies toward our red herd and breeding easy care cattle that can handle most any environment whilst being able to produce offspring that meet market requirements. We currently produce approximately 50-60 charbray and 70-80 red Brahman bulls annually. The majority are offered for sale in the paddock to numerous repeat customers and welcome new buyers, with the remaining selected top end bulls offered at various auction sales and field- days. We also select some sires for use within the herd to enable us to measure their performance.
Our motto of beef, bone, temperament and fertility extends to our commercial operation where at present we aim at producing steers primarily Japanese trade off grass pastures.
